The Gospel

I just finished reading Paul Washer's '"The" Gospel' in the latest edition of Heartcry magazine. This edition {volume 69} should be available soon for download here.
As I read this I thought, are there two different Gospels? Is there a 'free will' Gospel and a Gospel based on grace thru Christ because man is totally depraved and unable to come to Christ apart from regeneration? It can't be, there is only ONE Gospel, not two. Yet, all across this nation, we hear men beckon sinners to invite Jesus into their heart, or to make their decision. Maybe this is so hotly debated because we do not even know what the true, biblical Gospel is.

Here is a sample of that Gospel...

"Paul did not have "a" Gospel that was peculiar to him. His was not a 'Pauline' Gospel as opposed to a 'Petrine' or 'Johannine' Gospel. Though something of the personalities of these apostles is evident in their presentation, the Gospel they shared was the same. They would know nothing of the frequent language of our day that speaks of different variations, versions, and flavors of the Gospel as though there could be more than one. It is clear from Scripture that there was an unbroken continuum between what Jesus did and communicated to His followers and what Paul believed and preached.
In the Gospel of Jesus, genuine conversion is always accompanied by sincere and costly discipleship. Jesus frequently culled the large crowds that followed Him by making radical demands upon them: "if anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple". He even warned His own disciples, "if anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me..." In the Gospel of Paul, the same radical demands of discipleship are found.
In the Gospel of Jesus, men are taught that a mere profession of faith alone is no sound evidence of salvation. Jesus warned that not everyone who says to Him, "Lord, Lord" will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those whose lives are marked by obedience to the will of God.
Finally, the Gospel of Jesus abounds with warnings about future judgment and the terrors of hell. The matter was so crucial to Jesus that He gave the following warning even to those whom He considered to be His friends: "I say to you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him!"

There is but one Gospel, which stands above the editor and the censor, and which must not be changed, adapted, or repackaged. Any attempt to do so, regardless of the reason or motivation, will result in a different Gospel, which is NO Gospel at all!' - Paul David Washer

"the same radical demands of discipleship are found"~~ love it Lyn because it is SO true.

Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples."-John 8:31.

It's just radical to me in that it segue's with the power of God the evidence of the truth that he really has saved a person because it removes ANY margin of error in thinking in this watered down belief system that we can go circuitous and still be his disciples. No we cant and if we are then we may not be SAVED. I'm not saying Christians don't sin and I'm not saying that sometimes Christians cannot fall into heinous sins-they can. BUT the difference is we FALL into SIN whereas an unconverted person who thinks they are Christ's disciple willingly goes to(embraces it as a way of life) headlong. that we can just say the sinners prayer and then do as we wish is opposite than what Jesus clearly taught

Thanks Lyn, God bless you sister

Linda, I was drawn to that line as well, 'the same radical demands of discipleship are found', it immediately caught my attention. The Gospel is radical, and yet, in America multitudes claim to be Christian and there is no radical change, no radical way of living. They blend in with the unsaved and little difference can be seen. There is an accursed Gospel that penetrates this land, is the false Gospel of decisionism {Billy Graham is the biggest perpetrator of this false gospel}, a gospel that says Jesus is just waiting for you to invite Him in, or repeat a prayer, respond to the altar call, etc. I am not saying people who've done this are not saved; as Paul Washer says, some are saved, not because of this, but in spite of it. The true Gospel of Jesus Christ does not need man's manipulation, the power of the Gospel lies in proclaiming it without adding works to it.
A true convert of Christ will indeed have a radical turnabout, our lives and minds are drastically changed by the power of God and continue to be until He calls us home. We have no desire to fit in with the world, to blend in; it is all repulsive. Our desire is Christ, to love Him, to follow Him, to serve Him, to surrender up all for Him. Earthly possessions and desires to be successful no longer are the motive that drives us, it's all worthless. I would rather have NOTHING, I mean bare bones nothing and have Christ, who is so very precious to me, than to have what the world deems important, money, success, material possessions. Praise God we no longer chase after this dung!!

bless you,
lyn

I apologize, I tried to read my writing and I just cannot type sometimes in the morning....

Exacty Lyn. I watched a video last nite and this guy gave "his testimony". I didn't hear anything that sounded like genuine conversion, the gospel nor the Lord Jesus Christ talked about in a way that He is all the world to him. He prayed the sinners prayer --that never saved anyone--here's the video if you'd like to listen

God richly bless you Lyn
