sermon for the converted

A dear sister in Christ recommended this sermon to me via e-mail; I in turn recommend it to you. It is under the Sunday AM services, the sermon entitled 'warning the converted'. Here is the link

may I say with gentleness, I enjoyed the sermon until I believe the pastor begins to interject that the passage in Hebrews chapter 3 is talking to Unbelievers. I know many faithful and beloved Christian brothers and sisters may disagree and that's fine--I still love my family in the Lord.

Hebrews is a very deep book as we would all agree and I've not only read but also listened to many views from godly men.

Some believe that it does refer to unbelievers among us, yet I don't according to WHO Hebrews is talking to.

Honestly and respectfully I believe Hebrews chapter 3 is speaking to Christians because it starts off with "holy brothers" in chapter 3 and also again--in verse 12 of chapter 3 "brothers".

J. Vernon McGee said in one of his sermons that in Hebrews 3 verses 8-11 is referring to "rest of obedience--the rest of enjoying the Christian life"--not salvation. I honestly have to agree with him. When reading Hebrews, it is extremely important to find out who, what and where are answered in its context correctly so that we do not shoehorn Scripture and violate God's word-eisegesis.

Thanks Lyn and the other sister for sharing

Hi Linda,
Your comments are always welcome here. What I felt was important was the reminder to hold fast and strive to enter into God's rest; however,
I will have to listen again, I thought he said chapter 3 was addressing believers. If he in fact said unbelievers, I must agree with you Linda.
I will give this another listen hopefully later today.
Thank you and bless you for your input.

Honestly Lyn, I didn't listen to it all the way through as I should have and that's my fault. I've probably jumped the gun and I apologize. I will take the time and listen to His sermon this afternoon after work all the way through...

I'm sorry. I'm bad about listening to snippets and cramming them in my day when I never really sat down and LISTENED.

Oh my! I do the SAME thing. I think it is the culture in which we live....hurried and fast paced.
Thanks for your response.
