Is the Gift of Tongues available Today?

This is a tremendous short teaching on this misunderstood, misused gift...

Great clip, I agree.

I have come across several Pentecostals who insist you are not saved and do not have the Holy Ghost unless you speak in tongues. It seems they confuse the gift of tongues with the fruit of the Spirit. They forget the bible teaches not all have the same gift, and that tongues will cease {1 Cor. 13:8}. I have yet to find anyone outside the Pentecostal religion that claims this now defunct gift.

There are some Pentecostals that believe this (that you are not saved unless you speak in tongues) but they are generally regarded as heretical Pentecostals by other Pentecostals.

My husband and I are what used to be called Pentecostal -- that is we have those classic beliefs -- but just about the whole Pentecostal/Charismatic movement has been ruined by the faith/health/wealth/prosperity "gospels", so we don't go near them as much any more.

The Holy Spirit comes to live inside of you when you believe. We believe that the Holy Spirit that is already resident inside of a born-again Christian then pours out of them, after they are baptized in the Holy Spirit, in supernatural gifts and ministries.

But, no, you don't have to speak in tongues to be saved.

You rarely see any gifts of the Holy Spirit in Pentecostal churches any more. I believe the Holy Spirit has lifted his presence (although I know He is present everywhere) or manifestation from those churches due to the heresy of the prosperity "gospels."

Appreciated your comments on Berean Wife's blog. She has been gracious to let me go on and on.

We were quite shook up after our recent trip. Good to be back in our boring little town, where we can at least move among the people. This part of the country really needs a Bible-believing witness. We are missionaries here.

Travels,
Thanks for commenting. I appreciate your visit and insight into the downward spiral of the Pentecostals. It is happening to all denominations, I recently switched from a Southern Baptist church to a reformed Baptist church because I do not agree with the 'decisionism' salvation so prevalent within the SBC.

Blessings to you
